Overview
The Ocean Alliance Project app (“the App”) is operated by Ocean Alliance Project, a nonprofit marine conservation
organization. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
Information We Collect
Account information. If you create an account to access the Admin section, we collect your email address and a
password (stored securely via Supabase Auth). You may also provide your name, organization, and AAUS certification
number.
Location data. When you submit a turtle sighting, dive log, or ecological survey, the App may record GPS coordinates
to document where observations occurred. Location is only accessed when you actively submit a record.
Photos. If you attach photos to a turtle sighting, those images are uploaded to and stored on our servers. The App
accesses your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a photo.
Field data. Turtle sightings, ecological survey results, dive logs, and other conservation records you submit are
stored in our database and used for marine research and monitoring.
How We Use Your Information
– To support marine conservation research and long-term reef monitoring
– To build and maintain the public turtle catalog
– To coordinate field operations among researchers and volunteers
– To communicate with you about your account if necessary
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database platform. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS
connections. We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to support ongoing conservation
research.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
– Supabase — database and authentication (supabase.com/privacy)
– Apple MapKit — map display (apple.com/legal/privacy)
Your Rights
You may request to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time by contacting us at the address below.
Deleting your account will remove your personal profile; contributed field records (sightings, surveys) may be
retained in anonymized form to preserve the integrity of the research dataset.
Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under
13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance
of the updated policy.
