Ecological Monitoring Program (Part 1)

Begin your journey into marine conservation with the first half of our Ecological Monitoring Program, spanning two weekends. This immersive program is held on BOTH Saturdays and Sundays, making it ideal for both beginners and diving enthusiasts passionate about protecting Hawai‘i’s coral reefs. Each training day includes two dives, combining skill-building with practical ecological monitoring techniques.
The program kicks off with foundational dive skills, focusing on buoyancy and underwater navigation training. These essential techniques are critical for conducting accurate surveys and minimizing environmental impact while diving. Once participants have mastered these skills, we’ll transition to teaching how to conduct invertebrate abundance surveys and population management assessments.
Participants will learn to identify key marine invertebrates, understand their ecological roles within the reef ecosystem, and collect meaningful data to support reef health assessments and restoration efforts. This training lays the groundwork for contributing to impactful conservation initiatives while preparing for advanced ecological monitoring techniques.
Join us for this exciting and hands-on program, and take the first step toward becoming an active steward of Hawai‘i’s marine ecosystems!
