Facial Recognition for Sea Turtle Conservation

Honu Hawai’i is a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by the Ocean Alliance Project, aimed at revolutionizing sea turtle conservation through innovative technology. Our project involves capturing detailed photographs of both the left and right sides of the faces of Hawai’i’s sea turtles.

Safeguarding Ecosystems through Coral Health Monitoring

Through the strategic deployment of permanent line transects, our dedicated team meticulously surveys the underwater landscape for signs of coral disease, predation, invasive macroalgae, and the intricacies of coral competition and biofouling. This comprehensive initiative not only serves as a vigilant guardian of the local coral ecosystems but also paints a vivid picture of the complex interactions shaping the underwater realm.

Community-Sourced 3D Reef Mapping for a Sustainable Future

Our mission is twofold: to create intricate 3D models of local reefs, unlocking a new dimension of understanding, and to empower communities globally in crowd-sourced reef mapping. Through hands-on training, community members and interns become stewards of their underwater ecosystems, contributing to a comprehensive database that transcends geographical boundaries.
