This project aimed to establish baseline data on coral disease prevalence, incidence, and mortality across two heavily impacted reef systems on O’ahu’s southern shore: Maunalua Bay and Kewalo Basin.

This project investigated the ecological relationship between reef fish diversity and teh prevalence of White Syndrome, a tissue-loss disease affecting corals on O’ahu’s reefs.

This project explored innovative methods for tracking reef fish and honu (green sea turtles) as ecological indicators of coral reef health. By combining traditional transect surveys with software-assisted animal tracking, the goal was to enhance accuracy and speed in biodiversity monitoring and foster community participation in conservation.

This project quantified coral disease prevalence across two reef systems in Mamala Bay (Horseshoe Reef, Kewalo Basin; Turle Canyons, Maunalua Bay), while situating findings within broader patterns observed in Kāneʻohe Bay. Coral disease has emerged as a growing contributor to reef decline globally, yet baseline data remain limited in Hawaiʻi.

This project investigated the dynamics of White Syndrome (WS) lesion expansion across coral colonies in Maunalua Bay, Oʻahu. While WS is a widespread and damaging tissue-loss disease, little is known about how lesion progression rates vary across species or lesion sizes in Hawaiian reefs.
